Obesity Treatment Is Changing Fast: Here’s What’s Next
GLP-1 medications, obesity treatment, oral weight-loss drugs, pediatric obesity care, and new therapies are changing fast.
In this video, I talk about what may be coming next in obesity medicine.
GLP-1 medications have changed the way we treat obesity, but they are not the end of the story. There are new medications being studied, including oral options that could make treatment more affordable and more accessible for patients.
There are also new biological pathways being explored, including amylin-based treatments and medications like retatrutide, which works differently than current single or dual agonist medications. These options may eventually help patients who do not respond well to the first treatment they try.
I also talk about newer surgical and endoscopic procedures, including why some options like the lap band became less popular and why procedures like endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty still need stronger long-term data, especially before we can talk seriously about using them in children.
The bigger point is simple: obesity is a chronic disease, and patients need more than one option.
The more science we have, the more innovation we have, and the more treatment pathways we can safely study, the better we can serve patients long term.
